Default something crazy

in a GvG match the other day, something pretty crazy happened. we were playing, and decided we needed to spike the other teams monks. so we did, and it barely did any damage. We tried this about 4 times and the same thing ocurred.
Now, the next day a guildie was messing around in, while i forget the name of it, but its the place w/ the barrels, and you can hit them, and he began to notice that when he hit the barrels when they were kd, hit hit for less dmg. he was running an axe warr at that time. while they were up, he was hitting 40's-90's on his spike, but when they were knocked over, he only hit for 19-27. Thats a pretty rappid decrease in dmg, and so we drew the conclusion that this was the reason the spike did no dmg. The we tried it w/ a hammer, and sword warr, but this time it didnt make a difference, im pretty sure, on dmg up or down.

so my question is. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE? there is no update on the site for less dmg on spike when kd. did the nerf axe warr spikes? has ne1 else had this problem?

*note* the other monk was blacked out, so he couldnt heal the other.

About the Barrels: Was anyone else there to witness what happened? Due to the fact Barrels have no protection spells or ways to mitigate damage, and + damage(like that from Executioners/Eviscerate) is armor ignoring, I highly dbout that when he struck the barrel it only did that much damage. I just tested this with a shock axe warrior on all the barrels... Damage seemed very normal.

About the spike in GvG: Did you remove all his enchantments? If you didn't, he may have been under Protective Spirit or Spirit Bond... Or your spike was disrupted and you didn't realise it, or he was under a block/evade enchantment so your warriors didn't do much... Lots of possibilities. Don't always try to spike the same target too... Especialy if all the other spikes on said target haven't come close to killing them.

Can't say that about barrels. I was testing a Bacbreaker spike a week, week and a half ago, damages revolving around 50-100, also depending on chosen AL. Damage under KD did not drop down.

Well we were running a dual axe spike last night, with no consistant KD. No problem. I am going to assume they probably had Ritualist Spirits up that you didn't notice, or prot like Bonds/Barriers.

As for the more damage on KD thing; there used to be a myth that hitting a KD'd opponent resulted in an auto-crit. This has been tested and disproven; it makes no difference.

they were running a dual boon prot for monks, and there was no rit spammer. both of the monks were carrying guardian, which if im mistaken doesnt negate dmg just a chance to block/evade. the other monk was blacked out, so there was no healing from him/her. and, yes there were guildies to whitness this, the second time around, because we didnt believe him either. and this was only w/ an axe warr not doing dmg on the barrels

Seems odd, most people use a KD for a spike even though it doesn't cause critical but I don't think a foe can evade/block if they are KD or thats the assumption I was under.

I play mesmer a lot so I'm often the person who gets KDed a lot and whenever I do I always see the Crushing Blow/Eviscerate hit while I'm knocked down. I think once eviscerate did like 100 + dmg while I was knocked down before prot spirit was up so I'm pretty sure damage isn't negated. It must have been prot spirit or possibly just RoF.

this is moon-gel acting under another account cause i got banned for a bs "24 hours bump".
he couldnt have healed if he was kd, and this team wasnt exp enough to see the spike comming, so i highly doubt he had RoF up atm.

If I Executioners Strike a barrel when it is standing up I'll hit it for 100+. If I do a normal attack on a barrel that is knocked down and it isnt critical, it will hit for like 20.

No surprise there as to what was happening.

As far as why your adrenal spikes were failing in gvg, there is a laundry list of reasons why it could be not working, some of which were mentioned already. While I'm sure you and your guildies are absolutely pro and would never miss something that is fairly obvious, I wouldn't be so quick to claim you were thwarted by a bug. The answer is probably much more mundane than you think.
